We also have bukkake. A city's not a city unless it has lots and lots of bukkake.

That's bu as in boo too.

Hello! I’m a third generation Utican and proud of it. A lot of people trash this city either verbally or physically, but at least I’m doing my part to make my community a decent place to live. I’ve seen people move to Utica from other parts of the United States (and the world) with the intention of laying down some roots here only to be turned off by what they find. I think that is a shame. Utica – and all of Oneida County – has a lot to offer. One does not have to turn many stones to find the gems of this area, and if one can overlook some of the glaring problems like unemployment and poverty, they will find that Utica is a great place to work, live and play. We host The Boilermaker Roadrace (the largest 5K roadrace in the country) and we are home to The Long Distance Running Hall of Fame. We also have more than 5 colleges (including Hamilton College in nearby Clinton, NY) and we are only an hour’s drive from The Baseball Hall of Fame located in Cooperstown, NY. Utica has a diverse population due to the influx of refugees and immigrants from all over the world who settle here. People from every continent make up the divrese population of thu city. It is like a microcosm of the whole planet, a little melting pot. Unlike many other “desirable” locations, Utica is very affordable and won’t hurt your pocket book. You don’t have to lay down a quarter-of-a-million dollars for a house in his city. You don’t have to a spend two hours a day stuck in traffic either. Check out Utica and you are checking out one of the best places to live on the planet!

If you diss my city, I’ll break your legs. Nah – just kidding.

Funny thing - reading back through this blog all the way to the beginning, I would say it has gone through three (or maybe two) different authors. The earlier blog posts are very objective and subtle, not to mention a lot more optimistic. There are book reviews, theological ruminations and at one point the blog publishes short stories by local authors in installments.

Then the blog appears to have gone on hiatus for quite some time. This hiatus is marked by a series of embedded video posts. Most of the videos have since been disabled or deleted, but the ones which are still up appear to convey the same similar qualities: sarcasm, anger, dark humor and frustration. Each video post is accompanied by a hash mark for a title, and I'm guessing this has something to do with the author's intention to convey that he thinks living in Utica is like being in prison (i.e., his mostly pointless video posts are like the hash marks on a prisoner's cell wall which he uses to keep track of the days).

The video span of the blog appears to be managed by an interim author and serves as a segue to the darker and ominous version of the blog in its present form. The blog as it stands today is nothing like the blog at it's inception. The About page reads: "The Utican seeks to express a common, nuetral viewpoint about our city which eschews extreme opinions and uniformed biased assertions." This definition of the blog is not being upheld if one considers the racist things said in this post. Racism, no matter how justified it may seem, is nothing but biased assertions. Racist statements are biased because they come from one person and are directed at another person (who is usually a stranger to the first person). If Mr White says that Mr Black is a lazy and violent man, Mr White's assertions about Mr Black are biased. Mr White can only understand Mr Black's allegedly violent and lazy behavior through the context of his own experiences, therefore his views about Mr Black are biased (and hence inadmissible for serious consideration).

But more than just breaking its own rules and turning biased, however, the blog is now taking dark humor to a new level. One would have to be thick skinned not to become uncomfortable reading the recent gloomy posts. This post is about killing yourself, and another recent post was about suicide and included a picture of an actual dead body. The current author seems like he is headed for bad things.

It's a bit hard to make sense of since the blog doesn't follow what the About page says it's about. "With its partnership with translpanted Uticans living in New York City," The Utican seeks, "to create a forum where topics about the city of Utica can be expressed and discussed in an auspcious, objective fashion." So far I haven't seen that except in the more positive older posts. Maybe the current author needs to re-read the About page.

Well, if you don't want to be here in Utica, instead of wasting your time writing this stupid blog, why don't you do something like, get the fuck out of here? No one makes you stay, if you're intelligent enough to write a blog with pretty decent grammar and spelling skills, then you likely have enough intelligence to get the hell out of here.
